The Gifu JET Stream
A blog brought to you by your PAs and RPAs to keep you updated on Gifu JETs.
This year we are making some changes to the RPA system, the biggest is that due to the fact that there are so few JETs in the Chuno region, we are dissolving it into other regions. Next year Hida and Gifu will have three RPAs each, while Tono and Seino will continue having two RPAs. Without further ado, we’d like to introduce the new RPA team for the next year: Continuing RPAs:We're pleased to have Sam L. continuing as a Hida RPA, and Harly, formerly a Chuno RPA, continuing as a Tono RPA for the next year. Introductions from the new RPAsColby, Hida RPAGreetings fellow JET’s. I hope you guys are enjoying Japan so far. I’m Colby and I’m the RPA representing the Northern most region in Gifu, Hida. So I’m a good ol Canadian boy from the country outside Vancouver B.C. When my motivation is strong, I like sports n stuff. When it’s not, I like to enjoy music, Japanese food, beer and good conversation, preferably at the same time. I’m looking forward to working with all of you and I hope to help you in any way I can. Cheers. Nicole, Hida RPAHello everyone! I’m Nicole Pehrson and am one of the new RPAs for the wonderful Hida region! I am from the southwest part of the USA and worked as a school orchestra teacher and a private music instructor in South Dakota before coming to Japan. I live in lovely Takayama and work at the most amazing school (no bias) in Gifu prefecture, Hida High School. I spend my time outside of school playing music, reading and writing, exploring, collecting goshuin, and crying over chunks of steel in art museums. If you ever want to jam (by which I mean playing Beethoven or Mozart) or need a temple/shrine/museum-visiting buddy, feel free to hit me up! I am looking forward to working with all of you. よろしくお願いします! Sam I., Seino RPAHello! I'm Sam Ito, the Junior High ALT working in the wonderful town of Wanouchi! I decided to leave my cold, dry home in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to come to hot, humid Japan so I could find my ancestral roots. When I'm not in school, I like hiking with inappropriate footwear and practicing kendo with my students. Since arriving in Japan, I have discovered a passion for matcha and matcha-flavoured foods. I look forward to working with you all - just be prepared for me to be sweating profusely (or melting) in the summer heat. Mike, Seino RPAThey say great heroes are not chosen, but born. This is a little different from being an RPA as I was actually chosen to be represent Seino for the upcoming year (though I can confirm I have definitely been born). Like most people, I was a baby when I was born, and I somehow managed to survive the vast wilderness and hostile locals in North-East England, to grow in to what is biologically called an “adult”. Unfortunately, a medicine doctor once told me I must remain an “adult” until I die. Until that fateful day when I am banished into the dark, timeless void, I spend my time taking my mortal husk to various nice places in Japan and abroad, having a Japanese grammar textbook at my desk whilst actually browsing Reddit, and writing weird, obtuse self-introductions that don’t actually say anything. You should count yourself lucky – the Japanese kids just get told I like winter, pizza, soccer and dogs, but only when they occur in that specific order. Nicholas, Tono RPAHowdy! My name is Nicholas, and I’m from Texas in the U.S.A. I’m going into my fourth year as a municipal ALT in Ena, so I know a bit about the Tono region, and the people and places in it. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. If I can’t personally answer or help, I’ll be sure to point you in the direction of someone who can. Looking forward to another fun and productive year. See you around! Gaelle, Gifu RPAHello everyone! My name is Gaëlle! I am a French CIR working at the Gifu Prefectural Government in Gifu City. I can’t wait to work with you guys! I am an energetic but sleep deprived Parisian and apart from the fact that I am addicted to cheese and coffee, I also love traveling, chilling in the numerous coffee shops that Gifu has to offer and taking photos. (By the way you should definitely try the morning set thing which is basically paying for your coffee only and having free food served with it!) Please feel free to talk to me on many subjects! Emmy, Gifu RPAMy name is Emerald Flannigan, but please call me Emmy. I’m 22 years old and I’m from Birmingham, Alabama (U.S.). I live in Seki and work at Seki High School, and I like to play Sims and go to karaoke. Sammy, Gifu RPAHi everyone, My name is Sammy and I am from Adelaide, Australia! This is my first year as an ALT on the JET programme. I love reading, traveling and learning about other cultures. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you throughout the course of next year. Please feel free to send me an email should you have any questions about your life in Japan.

The RPA team follows the Japanese fiscal year, which means with the April teacher turn over, we also have our annual RPA turn over, with 8/10 of the RPAs changing this year. Kristen, former Chuno RPAThanks to all the JETs in Gifu prefecture for making these past two years as a Chuno RPA so awesome! Having the opportunity to get to know and help out so many JETs through SDCs, orientations, and community events has been a privilege. I hope we’ve made a positive impact on your life here, even if just to remind you to bring your lunch to SDC. Keep doing you, Gifu! Phinashia, former Hida RPAHey everyone! It’s been great serving as part of the RPA team this past year. I enjoyed seeing each of your sunny faces at various events and at SDC. I hope I was able to help you out in some way, whether it was helping you survive the first few weeks of self-introductions or helping out with planning and executing various training sessions we all experienced together. Here’s to life and new experiences going forward. Sarah, former Gifu RPA"So long, and thanks for all the fish!" Josiah, former Tono RPAHi everyone! It was great serving as an RPA in Gifu these past few years, and while I’m not always the most social creature I really enjoyed the chance to work with and meet so many wonderful people. It’s time for me to get ready to move on to my next job but I know that you’re in good hands with the new RPA team. I hope I’ll see a lot of you at the Sayonara Enkai this summer! Victoria, former Tono RPAThank you to the leaving RPA team, it was a pleasure talking over you in meetings! I’m so happy we were able to put together two lovely SDCs, and finally got rid of the Keynote speaker, go us! I hope you all go on to do wonderful things inside or outside of Japan. To the new RPA team, I’m sure you’ll go on to reach new heights never before seen on JET. To current Gifu JETs, you’re cool and don’t ever change. Thanks for putting the いいな in いなか. Tom, former Seino RPAHey everyone, it’s been a pleasure being part of your RPA team these past two years. Thanks for everything and all the best for the future.
