A blog brought to you by your PAs and RPAs to keep you updated on Gifu JETs.
By Phinashia Page, Hida RPA It's November! The month for stuffing our faces, decorating for the winter holidays, and realizing our planning systems could probably do with a bit of an update. Or is that last one just me? Whether I'm alone in that last point or not, I'd like to share how I use my planner as an ALT. I personally use the Bullet Journal system (you can learn more about it at the official website here) as a planner, but I hope that you can find at least one idea to help you stay organized and on top of things. I keep a record of all of my vacation days and which classes I am scheduled to visit on my monthly and future views. Everything else ALT-specific can be split into 3 major categories: Class-Related, Professional Development, and Personal. Class-Related This category includes anything that helps me keep class-related information in one location. I mainly keep lists of materials to make for class, activities I may be able to use, and anything related to planning and preparing for classes. Big projects, like preparation for holiday-themed activities and classes, get their own sections. I also keep basic information (phone number, class schedule, class size, etc.) for each school I work at and kindergarten I visit; having the class sizes written down really helps when I'm making materials. Professional Development Anything that has the potential to make me a better ALT or helps me gain skills that are useful belongs here. The 4 most recent SDCs each have their own section of notes. The TEFL course I took also has a couple of dedicated pages. I also include things like notes on how to teach numbers, grammar points I wanted to look up, and notes from ALT meetings. Personal This is the place for anything that's not directly related to being an ALT, but still has a bit of a tie-in. The two types of planning that belong here are studying for the JLPT (countdowns, study logs, etc.) and time-tracking. The JLPT study logs help me remember what I studied and when. I did the time tracking for a few months, and I think it really helped me see where I was spending my time and set weekly goals to better manage my time. Currently, I only track the amount of time I spend studying. Thanks for sticking around until the end! I hope you were able to find something that you can use in your own planning system.
