Gifu Prefecture has hosted JETs since the first year of the JET program in 1987.
The current number of Gifu JETs in 2021, which is significantly higher than before due to the increase in senior high ALTs, is yet to be updated due to the delays brought upon by COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Some placements are in populated cities, though many others are in very small towns. The north of the prefecture has the Japanese Alps and snowy winters, where as Tajimi, in the south, previously held the record high for temperature in Japan during summer.

- 16 Public Senior High School ALTs (Teaching mainly at one school)
- 1 Private Senior High School ALTs (Teaching at one school)
- 38 Municipal ALTs (Preschool, ES, and JHS, often teaching at multiple schools)
- 11 JETs are CIRs.
- 2 Chinese-speaking CIRs
- 1 French-speaking CIR
- 1 Filipino-speaking CIR
- 1 Portuguese-speaking CIR
- 1 Lituanian-speaking CIR
- 6 English-speaking CIRs
- There are no SEAs in Gifu Prefecture.
