In the JET Program, we frequently find many acronyms, JET specific phrases, or Japanese keywords slipping into our daily conversations. Check out some vocab that you might need to know to get by in Gifu.
JET Program: Japan Exchange and Teaching Program
JETs: Participants of the JET Program.
CLAIR: Council of Local Authorities and International Relations. - The Japanese Governmental agency predominantly in charge of the JET Program.
MIC: Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication - A Japanese ministry that manages the JET Program.
MEXT: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology - A Japanese ministry that manages the JET Program.
MOFA: Ministry of Foreign Affairs - A Japanese ministry that manage the JET Program.
ALT: Assistant Language Teacher
CIR: Coordinator of International Relations
SEA: Sports Exchange Advisors (We do not have any in Gifu Prefecture)
JTE: Japanese Teacher of English
National AJET: National Association of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program - All JETs. Run by National AJET Council, a group of volunteer JETs, who help create resources, social opportunities and have two yearly opinion exchanges with CLAIR to express the points of views held by current JETs.
Gifu AJET: Gifu Association of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program - A group of volunteer Gifu JETs who plan social and cultural events for JETs in the prefecture.

SDC: Skills Development Conference - The two semi annual Gifu JET ALT conferences organized by the PAs and supported by CLAIR, MEXT, MIC and MOFA.
Tokyo Ori: Post- Arrival Orientation - Orientation for new JETs held in Tokyo
AJC: After JET Conference - An optional conference for JETs who are not re-contracting.
Demo Lesson: Demonstration Lesson - Usually a prepared lesson held in front of other teachers and/or members of the BOE.

Daikyuu: time off for having to work outside of normal work hours (ex. If you have to work on Saturday, you might be able to take daikyuu on Monday).
